This checks whether colors stay tellable-apart as separate categories (chart series, map regions, tags), which is a different question from WCAG text contrast.

How this is different from contrast checking

WCAG contrast is about whether text stays readable against a background, one pair at a time. This is a different problem: a set of colors used as separate categories, like series in a chart, regions on a map, or status tags, needs to stay visually distinct from every other color in that set, even though none of them are text. A palette can pass every contrast check and still be unusable for someone colorblind if two of its categories collapse into the same color.
